Summer 2012/ Czech Republic

A Brief introduction of the internships:

‘Mám rád Českou republiku!’

I have joined the ‘AIESEC Global Internship Programme’ and chose to participate in the ‘JAZZ Language Project’ in Czech Republic. The duration for the program is 5 weeks and I will be working in the universities in Brno, which is the second biggest city in Czech Republic. Brno is a university town with over 15 universities and 80000 students. My internship is about organizing cultural workshops and English conversation lessons with local university students which aims at improving their English speaking skills and achieving cultural understanding through sharing of our own culture.

This project was really challenging and meaningful. During these 5 weeks, I had 5 classes each week and had to meet 5 groups of students. They were all of a similar age with me as most of them are local university students and master students with different academic background. In the lessons, we were given different topics about cultures each week , for example, food and drinks, festivals, music and movie, social system, sports and traveling. In our lessons, I had to organize different class activities, such as group discussions, debates, presentations and all of us shared lots of ideas and opinions. I began to know much more about the current situation and culture of Czech Republic and the East Europe

Unforgettable moments during the trip:

I really enjoyed my life in Czech Republic and experienced a lot of the local culture. For me, this is an unforgettable and unique journey which gave me lots of inspirations and once-in-a-lifetime memory!

Apart from the internship, I also gained several valuable friendships with the local students. We usually have lunch or dinner together after the lessons. The students introduced lots of local Czech food to me and taught me to speak in Czech language. I really had lots of enjoyable moments with them. Moreover, they showed me around the city and brought me to some great places, like the Brno Lake to enjoy the natural environment.

The most unforgettable memories would be the farewell lesson with the students on my last week of the internship. I suggested having our last lesson in a Chinese restaurant and have dinner together. During the dinner, I taught them the manner of eating in the way of Chinese, like eating with chopsticks and hold a bowl of rice. I ordered some traditional Chinese food, for instance, fried noodle with vegetable, sour spicy pork and fried Shanghai dumplings. The students really enjoyed it and they found interesting in using chopsticks to eat. After the dinner, they showed me the most typical way of living of Czech people, which is going to some pubs and chat with friends for the whole night. Czech people like drinking beer so much and Czech is the country with the biggest consumption of beer in the world. I really enjoyed the night spending with them and we chatted a lot and had lots of fun!

My life in Czech is full of excitement, surprises and new experience. I am so proud of my 5 weeks journey in this wonderful country! Děkuji vám, thank you all of you who share this memory with me!
